(Mississippi's First Firewise Community)
From Michele Steinberg, National Firewise Communities Coordinator,
"It is a delight to be able to count Mississippi among the states
that have active community participation (now up to 35. Snow
Lake Shores is the 245th active community in the program."
Snow Lake Shores is located in North Mississippi in the central part
of Benton County. Snow Lake Shore contains approximately 550 acres,
with 145 acres of water and the rest in developed and undeveloped
lots. The Holly Springs National Forest borders Snowlake along
it northern boundary, with the remaining sides adjoining private
landowners.
Snow Lake Shores was established in 1958 as a private restricted
resort community to provide a safe, family atmosphere for all to
enjoy. In 1996, Snow Lake Shores was incorporated in order to
better serve it residents and up-grade it services. The local
government is composed of a Mayor and a Board of Aldermen.
Shore Lake Shores has approximately 310 established residences, of
these 55 percent are full-time resident and the rest are "week-end"
residents. The normal population is 375, but during the
summer, the population can grow to over 900 people.
Structure types vary from homes with a market value of over $750,000
to structures such as mobile homes. Snow Lake Shores now has a
housing restriction to limit the development of low cost structures
and mobile homes. There is a camper hook-up area for the
residents and their guest.
