Procedures for Forest Stewardship Planning on Tornado Damaged Properties

- This program is for forest acreage that received damaged from April-May, 2010 tornados in the following Mississippi counties: Attala, Benton, Choctaw, Clay, Holmes, Issaquena, Lafayette, Monroe, Oktibbeha, Sharkey, Tippah, Warren, and Yazoo.
- Landowner will contract with a Consulting Forester or other resource professional who is a Registered Forester in the State of Mississippi. Go to www.cfr.msstate.edu/borf for listing.
- Property must contain 10 or more forested acres on a contiguous property. Upon Forest Stewardship Program (FSP) Plan approval, payment to the Registered Forester will be $5 per forested acre up to a $1500 limit per property.
- Registered Forester will complete Application for Stewardship Plan Development, secure landowner’s signature, and attach property map, scan and email .PDF or .JPG and IRS form W-9 to FSP coordinator: bgodbold@mfc.state.ms.us or mail to Mississippi Forestry Commission, c/o Brant Godbold, 1801 HWY 51 South, Grenada, MS 38901. The application will be dated when received. Note: A W-9 form is necessary with the first application form submitted. Subsequent applications do not require a W-9 form.
- FSP Coordinator will forward the application and map to local Service Forester for verification. Verified tornado damaged properties will be considered for awarding on a first come first serve basis as initially received by the Stewardship Coordinator.
- Registered Forester agrees to write plan according to 2009 FSP Standards and Guidelines (included in package below).
- Give Registered Forester FSP development document package for use - downloadable from MFC website: http://www.mfc.ms.gov/updates/FSP-2010.zip
- When plan is complete, submit by email to FSP Coordinator electronically (.PDF or .DOC) which is preferred or by mail for review. Plan will be forwarded to District FSP Committee Contact for review and approval.
- When plan is approved by District FSP Committee Contact a copy will be sent to Service Forester to enter into SIMSMap and the MFC landowner file and a copy to the FSP Coordinator for the record and payment.
- In order to receive payment Register Forester must go to MS Dept. of Finance and Administration website. www.dfa.state.ms.us Click on “Vendor Services,” then “Paymode.” Then, enroll in “Paymode” online.
- FSP Coordinator will authorize payment for $5/ forest acre with a limit of $1500 for approved plan.
